History of the Art + Design Project

The Kinkaid Art + Design Auction began in 2019, with a unique, elegant, and well-attended benefit evening entitled A Fantastical Fête. The event featured a curated selection from 14 tastemakers selected around the country — specially invited luminaries from the fields of art and design. Each talent created an inspired, collectible art object. Playing off the night’s Surrealist theme, an apple (à la Magritte) was chosen as the object to be transformed into an artwork. A few of the noteworthy participating artists and designers (and design entities) included Miles Redd, Hunt Slonem, Ashley Longshore, Christopher Spitzmiller, John Derian, Ann Wolf, Gracie Wallpaper, and Bunny Williams Home. The average selling price for the apples was over $5,000.

The Art Project 2022

This year, the School will ask ten tastemakers of our generation to design a sphere, A Wonder Ball, that reflects their unique aesthetic and vision. Each creation will be showcased as guests enter the event and will be available for acquisition via online auction bidding that evening.

Check back here in early 2022 for previews of the spheres before they are put up on the online auction.
