Field Day 2023

The first Field Day was held in 1925 at the Elgin campus. It was expanded at the Richmond campus, where in 1937, with a new gymnasium, Field Day became larger than ever, including folk dances, father-son softball games, a mother-daughter dance, and a Middle and Upper School dance. One of the favorite traditions that continues today is the Upper and Lower School buddy program. Upper School students are matched with Lower School students to walk out onto the field at the beginning of the field competitions.

Thanks to the efforts of parent volunteers, Field Day continues to bring the Kinkaid family together. It has become a significant fundraising event, with proceeds going to support academics, arts, and athletics.

ALL students (except Seniors) will wear a Field Day t-shirt (ordered through the Back-to-School One Stop Shopping or from any prior year) or a plain white shirt with khaki shorts, any athletic shorts (any color), or any skort (any color). They also may wear other spirit items such as purple and gold socks, hair bows, bandanas and sweatbands! Seniors may wear their college of choice t-shirt.

Field Day t-shirts were available in the Back-to-School One Stop Shopping and t-shirts sales close March 10th, 2023. 

What if I can’t remember if I bought tickets, wristbands, or a Field Day T-shirt?

If you search for a confirmation email in your inbox or spam folder from "The Kinkaid School Store" with the subject line: "Thank you for your order," you will see what you purchased.  If you can't find that email or you never created an account on Square, you may contact helpdesk@kinkaid.org for the IT department to look up your order. 

If you did not purchase one, you may wear a field day t-shirt from a previous year or purple and gold to show your team spirit!

In lieu of a t-shirt, I would like to give $20 to the 11th grade.

We recommend something comfortable and cool. Don’t forget a hat and sunscreen! We are hoping for sunshine! Many parents wear purple or gold, in support of their child’s or children’s team.

For new families, your child’s team color will be posted in Veracross at the end of March.  All siblings are assigned to the same team because no one wants a house divided!

Once assigned to the Purple or Gold team, your child or children will remain on that team, so it is Purple or Gold forever!

Parents are encouraged to attend both the field events and the carnival. It is a special day for the whole family to enjoy together! Siblings and grandparents are also invited to share in the fun! Sorry, no pets allowed. Put your name in the raffle and bring a dog home!

Field Day begins as the Purple and Gold teams march out onto the football field. Get ready to take some pictures because it is quite a sight! After the opening remarks, the games begin! Field Day will start with the Pre-K classes circling the Maypole and then proceeds through all grade-level competitions until the final event, which is the exciting and much anticipated Senior Tug-Of-War. Points for the Purple and Gold teams are tallied throughout the competitions and the winning team is announced after the Senior Tug-of-War.

5th-8th Grade: Relay Race
9th-12th Grade: Tug-of-War

After the conclusion of the field events, the carnival begins on the Falcon Green. There will be games and rides for all ages, such as the popular Melt Down, Dixie Twister chair swing, Bungee Trampoline, and the Trackless Train! Of course, we will have all of the Falcon favorites such as Bingo (in the Ogilvie Family Lobby), Pick-A-Chop, the Dunk Booth, Win-A-Fish, and the Pocket Lady.

Come hungry because there will be lots of food booths where you will find tacos, burgers, pizza, hot dogs, Frito pie, snow cones, cotton candy, dippin’ dots, and churros! Don’t miss the Falcon Bakery where you can buy homemade goodies baked by Kinkaid parents and grandparents. Dance to the DJ’s terrific tunes and try to win one of the delicious cakes at the Cake Walk!

Tickets are used to pay for everything, including rides, games, food, and drinks. One sheet of 25 tickets costs $25. Wristbands are $30 and cover all rides and are especially good for the younger kids, so they can go on rides without having to keep up with tickets.

All pre-ordered tickets and wristbands will be mailed directly to your home two weeks before Field Day. You may also purchase tickets and wristbands on Field Day via credit card, cash, or check at the ticket booth on the Falcon Green.
