Kinkaid Athletics

Summer 2013

It is a goal of the Athletics Department to help our student athletes enhance their physical skills by developing their strength, speed, agility, and quickness. We strongly believe that the development of these attributes will not only improve overall performance but will also help prevent injury. 

Everett Coleman, Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, has designed a twelve-week training program that begins in May and continues through the month of July. The program meets four days a week (Monday through Thursday); we strongly suggest that all those planning to play an interscholastic sport participate in this summer offering.

Training will be grouped as follows:
Strength Training Group…will work on strength development and core exercises with a regeneration period built in at the end of the session.
Speed, Agility & Quickness Group (SAQ)…will work on movement preparation, plyometric exercises, energy system development, and finish with foam roller stretching to help the muscles recover.

Monday–Thursday Sessions as follows:

Session I
9:00-9:45 AM               Strength Training Group (Wgt. Room)/SAQ Group (Field)
9:45-10:30 AM             Students switch groups 

Session II
10:30-11:15 AM           Strength Training Group (Wgt. Room)/SAQ Group (Field)
11:15-12:00 PM           Students switch groups

Session III
12:00-1:00 PM             Strength Training for those with morning/evening camps, clinics, or competitions

Cheerleading

Summer workouts for Cheerleading

The squad will attend Session II of the Training Session listed below on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Weight Lifting plus Speed/Agility Training sessions will be led by our Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, Everett Coleman.  Sessions will take place on Monday – Thursday throughout the summer. Please see above for details

Cross Country- Boys

Summer Workouts for Cross Country
Informal summer training will begin at the conclusion of the spring season.  Once school is out for the summer, team runs will be available 3 mornings a week, with one at Kinkaid and others available at various other locations around town.

There will be 2-3 opportunities to travel to the Hill Country outside Austin to train on the hills.  Those dates are presently TBD.

Summer Workouts for Upper School Field Hockey
Optional Morning Pick-up Dates/Times:

  • Tuesdays/Thursdays, Starting June 4th – Ending June 27th  (7:30am – 8:30am)

  • August 8th & 9th (7:00am-9:00am)

Football

Summer Workouts for Football
7 on 7 workouts will take place on Tuesday evening from 5:00-7:00 throughout the entire summer (varsity skill position players only).

We will have one (1) week of team building workouts for the entire upper school football program from July 29th-August 2nd.   The team building workouts will include activities such as relay races, tug of war/weight competitions, and position specific skill work.

  • We will use this week to hand out equipment. Therefore, we strongly suggest that all students attend if possible in order to receive their equipment prior to our first mandatory practice.

  • Varsity Summer League
    • Where: Alief Taylor Gym
    • When: May 28th- June 27th (Tuesdays and Thursdays)
    • Time: Games are played between 4-9 pm
    • Cost: $50/player (checks are payable to The Kinkaid School by April 26th)
    • Uniforms: Jerseys are included as a part of your league fee
    • Eligibilty: By invitation of Coach Marshall only
  • JV Summer Scrimmages
    • Where: Kinkaid (after workouts)
    • When: June 4th, 18th & 25th
    • Time: 5:30 pm
    • Cost: No cost for Kinkaid students 
Phase II
  • Summer skill workouts
    • Where: Kinkaid
    • When: Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout June

The week of July 29 – August 2, Kinkaid will host a team camp from 8:00 -- 10:00 in the morning.  All high school level players are encouraged to attend.

Baseball

Summer workouts for Baseball
Each summer we plan to field 3 league teams; a varsity, junior varsity, and an incoming 9th grade team.  We will also play 4 weekend tournaments that will be separate from the league.  All players are welcome to sign up for both the league and tournaments.   Some players may play on different level league teams, but play on the same tournament team… it all depends on how many sign up. We play games from the end of May through middle of July.  I will coach the varsity league/tournament team, and the Kinkaid staff will coach the sub varsity teams.  The coaching staff will make decisions based on what is the best placement for the player.  League games will usually be Monday-Thursday, and the tournaments will take place on the weekends.  All league teams will play one or two double headers during the week.
