Golf - Girls Varsity

The girls golf program at Kinkaid provides female student athletes the opportunity to play a game that embodies the core values of the school.  As a self regulated sport with an overriding principle of fairness and personal integrity, golf requires would be players to develop the same values of responsibility, honesty and respect that Kinkaid encourages all of the student body to model.

As members of the golf team, players are responsible for working hard to develop their physical skills, learn the rules of the game and consistently apply those rules on the course.

Since players are responsible for self-regulation during competition, honesty is critical to maintain the integrity of the game.  Many of the shots on a course are taken without oversight.  Consequently, the players learn to voluntarily penalize themselves for rule infractions that might not have been observed by an opponent.  They are expected to understand which relief options are available when faced with an unplayable lie and take only that which is allowed.  At the same time, for the benefit of everyone in "the field" each player is held responsible for demanding that fellow players adhere to the rules.

The players are expected to treat their teammates, coaches and competitors with respect by winning without boasting, losing without excuses and conducting themselves on the course in a manner that is not disruptive to the play of their opponent.

By learning to play a sport with such high standards of personal integrity, the Kinkaid golfers honor not only the game, but also their teammates and their school.  As the Rules of Golf admonish, they learn a very valuable life lesson to " play the ball as it lies, play the course as you find it, and if you cannot do either, do what is fair."
