Kinkaid Falcon Baseball
Philosophy
As a program, our goal is to provide opportunities that allow each student athlete to grow mentally, physically, and socially. Success will be achieved when we learn to continually improve upon the aspects of the game that we can control. We must be able to develop as individuals and apply that to a team concept.
A Kinkaid baseball player gives the same effort in the classroom as he does on the field and is a person of character that makes quality decisions in life. A Kinkaid baseball player also commands respect through a tireless work ethic on the field and enjoys the experience of competition regardless of the outcome.
The Kinkaid coaching staff will be dedicated and determined to maximize our athlete’s performance. Clear communication between players and coaches will be a necessity and will be reinforced daily. Expectations from both the coaching staff and players will be high.
Our goal is to approach every game with class, discipline, and pride, and strive to play with toughness. Through our preparation and dedication, we will compete at every given opportunity and let our performance speak for itself.
Varsity Baseball Program
The varsity baseball program continues to emphasize teaching the fundamentals of the game and character development to make quality life decisions. We teach a winning attitude and strive to win the SPC baseball championship. We look to win every game that we take the field, and show character and sportsmanship regardless of the outcome.
Hustle is one of the most important elements in the game of baseball. Whether you are winning or losing, you can always play hard. If things aren’t going well, you can create something positive by just playing the game with energy. Players are expected to sprint on and off the field, back up all throws, and play the game within the game. For example, get on and off the field between innings before our opponent reaches the foul line.
Practice for the varsity program is 2 hours per day, although players are welcome to get extra work before practice. We will work on all 3 aspects of the game at a more in depth level, and increase our bunt coverages, first and third situations, and pick offs.
Pitchers will be limited to a certain number of pitches depending on the amount of throwing done in practice and rest time between starts. We will throw flat grounds, tarp work, and bullpens to work mechanics and location. We will continue to rely on the fastball and change up, while at the same time throwing the breaking ball for strikes. Throwing strikes and staying ahead in the count is vital to a pitcher’s success. We will continue to implement a throwing program as well as a lifting program to develop overall strength.
Offensively we will stress the importance of staying short and inside the baseball. We will take an up the middle approach, but will have the ability to hit based on pitch location. We will also continue to emphasize the importance of the sacrifice bunt, drag bunt, hit and run, steal, and suicide squeeze.
