Basketball - Boys JV
2012-13 JV Boys Basketball Team
Boys’ Basketball Philosophy
The philosophy of the Kinkaid Boys’ Basketball team is focused around the foundation of “team”. In all aspects of coaching, both on and off the floor, the ideals of commitment to, service toward and respect for your team and teammates will be stressed.
Our program begins first with the “student” in student-athlete. A certain level of commitment in the classroom must be reached in order to have the opportunity to participate in practice or games. In handling one’s responsibility in the classroom, they will show a commitment and respect to their team by being available each day to improve in their individual skill and respective roles on the team. Another aspect of educating the individual is a commitment to serving our Kinkaid community, as well as our greater Houston community. Being a good teammate requires sacrifice and the ability to serve others around you with time, effort and ability. Our program stresses community involvement within our school and also requires a one-day holiday service project for Varsity athletes. Through participation in activities such as these, our coaching staff believes a greater sense of appreciation, compassion and respect for all people can be developed.
On-floor behavior will be centered on service to their teammates, respect for the game and a respect for everyone involved in allowing our team the opportunity to compete. In all circumstances leading up to, and during the game our players will be respectful to people, property and equipment that has allowed our team an opportunity to play. During the game, a healthy respect for the officials and the other team will be enforced. Unsportsmanlike behavior to officials, fans or the other team will not be tolerated.
It is the goal of our program to instill confidence and courage in our young men before they graduate as seniors. It is the hope of our coaching staff that each young man that leaves our program becomes a man of character, a man of honor and a man for others. Our coaches believe that this can be accomplished when each one of our players commits time and energy to our program and it’s ideals, when he serves his teammates and community with his time, energy and ability, and respects all aspects of the journey that he has just completed.
