Baseball - Boys 8th
2013 8th Grade Baseball
Kinkaid Falcon Baseball
As a program, our goal is to provide opportunities that allow each student athlete to grow mentally, physically, and socially. Success will be achieved when we learn to continually improve upon the aspects of the game that we can control. We must be able to develop as individuals and apply that to a team concept.
A Kinkaid baseball player gives the same effort in the classroom as he does on the field and is a person of character that makes quality decisions in life. A Kinkaid baseball player also commands respect through a tireless work ethic on the field and enjoys the experience of competition regardless of the outcome.
The Kinkaid coaching staff will be dedicated and determined to maximize our athlete’s performance. Clear communication between players and coaches will be a necessity and will be reinforced daily. Expectations from both the coaching staff and players will be high.
Our goal is to approach every game with class, discipline, and pride, and strive to play with toughness. Through our preparation and dedication, we will compete at every given opportunity and let our performance speak for itself.
Middle School Baseball Program
The middle school baseball program emphasizes teaching the fundamentals of the game and character development to make quality life decisions. Playing the game the right way will be introduced in 7th grade… sportsmanship, hustle, and work ethic. We use positive reinforcement and have a no cut policy. We do require the players to be enrolled in another league to play for the Kinkaid team.
Practice for the middle school program is 45 minutes per day and is composed of defensive, offensive, and pitching fundamentals. We will work on all 3 aspects of the game, but stress pitching and defense at the middle school level. All terminology will be the same as we use on all levels. We will introduce cut offs, bunt coverages, first and third situations, and pick offs.
Pitchers will be limited to a certain number of pitches depending on the amount of throwing in their other league. We will throw primarily fastballs and change ups at the middle school level with emphasis on staying ahead in the count and throwing strikes. We will implement a throwing program to develop mechanics and arm strength.
Offensively we will stress the importance of staying short and inside the baseball. We will take an up the middle to opposite field approach to develop proper mechanics and teach the proper way to pull the baseball after the player has learned to stay inside the baseball. We will also emphasize the importance of the sacrifice bunt, drag bunt, and suicide squeeze.
