Girls Golf Program Philosophy

The Kinkaid girls golf program provides student athletes the opportunity to play a game that embodies the core values of the school. As a self-regulated sport with an overriding principle of fairness and personal integrity, golf requires would-be players to develop the same values of responsibility, honesty and respect that Kinkaid encourages all of the student body to model.

Kinkaid golfers will be provided numerous opportunities and challenges to play against some of the best competition in Texas and they are responsible for working hard to develop their physical skills, learn the rules of the game and consistently apply those rules on the course.

Since players are responsible for self-regulation during competition, honesty is critical to maintain the integrity of the game. Many of the shots on a course are taken without oversight. Consequently, players learn to voluntarily penalize themselves for rule infractions that might not have been observed by an opponent. They are expected to understand which relief options are available when faced with an unplayable lie and take only that which is allowed; at the same time, each player is held responsible for demanding fellow players adhere to the rules.

Players are expected to treat their teammates, coaches and competitors with respect by winning without boasting, losing without excuses and conducting themselves on the course in a manner that is not disruptive to the play of their opponent.

By learning to play a sport with such high standards of personal integrity, Kinkaid golfers honor not only the game, but also their teammates and their school. As the Rules of Golf admonish, they learn a very valuable life lesson to " play the ball as it lies, play the course as you find it, and if you cannot do either, do what is fair."

Kinkaid golfers are strongly encouraged to become members of the Houston Golf Association (HGA) and other junior golf associations, so they will be able to compete in various tournaments throughout the year. The Kinkaid girls golf program welcomes any golfer who enjoys playing the game and with the understanding only the top players shooting the best scores will be allowed to play in tournaments.

Off-Season Development

Players are strongly encouraged to become members of and play in tournaments sponsored by the Houston Golf Association (HGA), Texas Junior Golf Association (TJGA) and other affliated associations during the offseason and summer months.
