iPads are used in the Kindergarten classroom as a powerful tool to provide differentiated instruction that appeals to all learners. Loaded with a variety of educational apps, a teacher can offer students individualized lessons and practice. The iPad appeals to the diverse needs of each young learner engaging the child’s visual, auditory and tactile senses. Kindergarten students enjoy working in the apps and we can see their positive reactions and excitement.
While some students work on beginning, middle and ending sounds, others may work on spelling sight words. While the children work you hear exclamations like, "WOW! I am great at this! I am spelling words!!" The apps give such positive feedback when students answer correctly. The immediate, positive reinforcement is something the kids respond so well to. Students are monitoring their own success and gaining confidence in their skills.
Additionally, students love reading on the ipad!
The iPad provides emergent readers a colorful and interactive reading platform. Words are highlighted as the reader follows along and illustrations come to life. For early readers, the iPad enhances the learning experience with simulation and interaction that a child reading a traditional book alone may not experience.
Kinkaid Kindergarten teachers recently attended a "training session" and the ipads are now rotating through all four Kinkaid Kindergarten classes!
