WHAT OUR COMMUNITY THINKS ABOUT THE LAND
"In 1975 when I first worked part time for Kinkaid, there was an excited buzz, about the School perhaps someday being able to acquire the tract of land west of our campus - and when that buzz finally became reality, I felt again the excitement of 35 years ago. As Mrs. Kinkaid often pointed out, the best things happened at her School according to a Plan which was not entirely her own. The land comes to our School when we most need it. As we march confidently forward into our second hundred years, the acquisition of this land will prove to be a significant milestone, not because it makes us bigger, but because it makes us better." ~ Susan Santangelo ‘55, Former Kinkaid Teacher
"For decades, the "land next door" has been a part of the Kinkaid mythos. I remember my father talking about it with all three Headmasters over the years. As an alum, I am very pleased that this dream has finally come true. As a Kinkaid parent, I know that the acquisition will further enhance Kinkaid's pre-eminence among the very best schools in the nation and ensure that future generations receive the finest education possible." ~ Helena Papadopoulos Johnson '82, Alumni Association Board Member and Kinkaid Parent
"The news that the dream of acquiring the land to the west of campus had materialized was truly a celebratory moment. The opportunities for generations of Kinkaidians are unlimited, from expansion of The Backyard, to enhancing our already outstanding facilities, to being better neighbors with traffic improvements. Perhaps the delay has actually been a bonus because we are now more knowledgeable and appreciative of our good fortune and will take more care to be responsible stewards of every new acre." ~ Barbara Cooney, Middle School History Teacher
"It's so great to go to such a wonderful school, and it is unbelievable to have it be expanded by so much! It will be amazing to be here at Kinkaid while such a memorable change is happening. I'm really excited Kinkaid was able to buy this land. I think it will improve our already wonderful school by a lot!." ~ Anna Hogan '18
"We are very excited for the Kinkaid community in that they were able to secure the twenty-five acres between Kinkaid and the Stillforest neighborhood. This is a very unique opportunity for a private school in the middle of a large city to increase the size of its campus by this much. We feel fortunate that Kinkaid has plans to preserve the value of the Stillforest neighborhood as the expansion phases progress. We are really excited." ~ Janis Priest, Kinkaid Parent and Stillforest Resident
"Kinkaid has coveted and needed that land for generations, and for generations I have heard talk about the status of acquiring it - sometimes hopeful talk, sometimes forlorn talk. To obtain it is an absolute coup, a coup that will allow Kinkaid to properly grow and accommodate its students, all on one campus. I am thrilled to see it at long last a reality, and my hat is off to those who made it such." ~ John Germann, History Department Chair
“How remarkable! To increase our campus by more than sixty percent will enable us to continue the tranquil setting that I experienced as a student, a setting that will now be carried forward for my kids and their kids. As a parent, I am excited at the prospect of immediately improving the campus life with extended green space and additional onsite parking, along with the long term potential to expand our Upper School and Athletic Facilities. As an Alum, I see this historic event as an opportunity to extend the life of our campus for another one hundred years." ~ Welcome Wilson '69, Alumni Association Board President and Kinkaid Parent
