PSIA One Act Play Contest, April 13-14, Liberty Christian School, Argyle, Texas
Posted 04/16/2012 03:00PM

This was an extremely successful weekend for 8th grade drama students and our 7th grade representative. Under the expert guidance of Mr. Jonathan Schroeder, our students set up the stage in less than 3 minutes, with a 7-minute maximum time. One second over the 7 minutes and our school would have been disqualified. Only the cast and crew could be back stage. The adults could not prompt or give stage directions. It was totally a student produced performance

With over 200 students participating, representing independent schools in the Houston/ Dallas Ft. Worth area of PSIA, five students were awarded Certificates of Excellence in Technical Theatre: Dean Taylor, assistant stage manager; Christina Oti, make-up and hair; Madison Fradina, sound operator; Conner Gilliam, lights; and Kate Hinnant was the stage manager who called the show. Four Kinkaid students, out of 15 to be selected from all of the schools, were named to the "All Star Cast." Congratulations to Catie Asarch, Ty Doran, Alex Goeringer and Austin Karkowsky.

The performance could not be over 40 minutes or there would be disqualification. Again, Kinkaid students rose to the ocassion and were able to cut some words during the performance, which was timed at 38 minutes and 48 seconds. The PSIA Theatre Judge was incredibly complimentary of all of the Kinkaid  students and the performance which was enjoyed by a large audience from 7 different schools.  Dr. Schwinn had 10 minutes with each school to critique the performance and to talk to each cast member about their individual performance. This was an invaluable experience for all of us. Considering that four of our students arrived after midnight on Friday, following a Lacrosse Game and two girls arrived about 2:00AM, following Cheer Try-Outs; this was an endurance test as well as a contest.

Overall, Kinkaid was named 2nd in the District, out of 7 schools, and qualified for the State Tournament where all of the top two schools from each District will compete for the State Championship. A special thank you to Frank Hinnant, Patricia Goeringer, Noelle Barr, Kim Wind and Denise Scofield for their presence and unending support during the One Act Play Competition. None of this would have been possible without the middle school teaching expertise of Mr. Jonathan Schroeder.  It was fun being in Argyle, Texas ...during the NASCAR weekend!!
