This application deadline for the 2017-2018 school year has passed.

Kinkaid accepts applications one year prior to the date of expected entry. Natural entry points are Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, Sixth and Ninth grade. Please select the grade level options below for specific grade application requirements. You may use the Admission Portal during the admission process to check the status of your application. Application forms are available in a section below.

Lower School

Pre-Kindergarten

Age Requirement – Candidates must be at least four years old by July 1 of the year they will enter Pre-Kindergarten, and they must not have turned 5 before June 1 of the year they will enter Pre-Kindergarten.

Step 1: Create a profile in the Admission Portal

Step 2: Complete the Application
After clicking the button, follow the steps in the online application. In the Admission Portal you will need to complete the Parent Questionaire, Family Information, and submit the non-refundable $100 application fee. You will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours of submission.

Step 3: Testing – WPPSI
The WPPSI is scheduled weekdays through The Kinkaid Admission Office and administered at Education Specialists, located at 10700 Richmond Ave., Suite #201. A payment of $200 is due to Education Specialists at the time of testing.

Please note: The Kinkaid School Admission Office will only accept results from testers who have an established agreement to test candidates for admission on behalf of a peer Houston Area Independent School. If you have questions about this requirement, please contact our office at (713) 243-5033.

Step 4: Group Testing
All applicants will be invited to meet grade level teachers and spend some time in Kinkaid classrooms. This is an opportunity for our teachers to get to know our applicants in a small group setting. These groups meet on assigned Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings beginning in September.

Step 5: Teacher Recommendation
Forward the Teacher Recommendation form to your child's current teacher no earlier than October 1, 2016 and have the teacher return the completed form to the Kinkaid Admission Office by October 28, 2016.

Pre-Kindergarten Teacher Recommendation Note: In order to give the teacher time to get to know your applicant better, we ask that you not give the teacher this form before October 1. This form will be due Friday, October 28, 2016.

Kindergarten

Step 6: Transcript (Grades 3 & 4 only)
Forward the Transcript Release Form to your child's current school and have the school provide official grades from the past two years and the fall semester of the current year. The transcript is due by January 6, 2017.

Middle & Upper School

Grades 5 - 8

After clicking the button, follow the steps in the online application. In the Admission Portal you will need to complete the Parent Questionaire, Family Information, Student Short Answers, and submit the non-refundable $100 application fee. You will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours of submission.

Step 3: Testing – Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE)
The Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) offers online registration or you may use a paper mail-in registration form. The testing fee of $105 is paid directly to Educational Records Bureau (ERB). The ISEE test date at Kinkaid is January 7, 2017, for students applying to Grades 5 – 8. Check in time is at 8:30 a.m. on the day of testing, testing will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m., and students will be dismissed by 12:00 p.m. The deadline to register for our testing date is December 17, 2016.

*We will use, in its entirety, the most recent ISEE test submitted to our office. ISEE Test scores are due by January 13, 2017.

Step 4: Group Testing / Interview

  • Group Test (Grade 5): All applicants will be invited to meet grade level teachers and spend some time in Kinkaid classrooms. This is an opportunity for our teachers to get to know our applicants in a small group setting. This group meets on January 21, 2017. Volunteers will guide you to registration in the Middle School lobby at 8:00 a.m. on the day of testing.
  • Interview (Grades 6-8): Each candidate for Grades 6 – 8 will have an interview with a member of the Admission Committee. After submitting the application, a faculty member assigned to the candidate will contact you by telephone or email to set a mutually agreeable time for the student interview.

Step 5: Recommendations
The recommendations are confidential responses from your child’s current instructors. We ask that you do not give the teacher recommendation forms to your child's instructors before December 1, 2016. The forms are expected to be sent directly from the instructors to the Admission Office by January 13, 2017.

Step 6: Transcript
Complete and send the online Transcript Release form to the school your child currently attends. Transcripts must include grades from the two previous academic years and the current fall semester. Transcripts are due by January 13, 2017.

Please note our deadlines for the Application Forms. Application forms need to be forwarded to the Kinkaid Admission Office by the deadlines listed to ensure your child’s application file will be completed in time for review.

Grades 9 - 12
